Volunteer Opportunities

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN VOLUNTEERING FOR MEALS ON WHEELS!

There are many opportunities to volunteer with our team! Here are some ways you could be involved:

As a Permanent Driver
As a Substitute Driver
As a support during community events
As a pet food bagger

Our volunteer drivers are expected to do the following:

Arrive at the Meals on Wheels facility between 9:30AM and 10:00AM
Deliver one route (an average route has 5-10 recipients) on Monday, Tuesday, and/or Thursday
Complete delivery between 10:00AM and Noon
Follow program policies and procedures
Get to know the recipients on your route, and have fun!

If you would like to apply as an individual or a pair, please continue to the bottom of the page to fill out our volunteer application! If you are hoping to volunteer with a team (e.g., a church group, a business team, a sports team, etc.), please reach out to us via email.

SOMETHING TO KEEP IN MIND:

Special bonds form between volunteers and recipients. When you develop these bonds, please discuss sharing contact information with them in advance. Occasionally, routes and recipients are changed due to logistics, GIS mapping, construction, etc. You are welcome to phone or visit a recipient if they are moved to another route, rehabilitation facility, or permanent placement outside of their home. We do ask that you respect recipients' privacy, and understand that some details are confidential.

Statement of Liability

Haywood County Meals on Wheels is not responsible for personal injuries or property damage suffered or caused by a volunteer in connection with his or her volunteer activities. As a condition to serving as a volunteer, each volunteer is expected to maintain his or her own personal and automobile insurance covering these and other risks.

Confidentiality Statement

It is understood that as a volunteer of Haywood County Meals on Wheels, you will protect the privacy of all those we serve by maintaining strict confidentiality when discussing meal recipients and the nature of their health conditions. Under no circumstances should a volunteer from the Haywood County Meals on Wheels divulge recipient information to anyone outside the organization. (Handout available)

Civil Rights Training

Haywood County Meals on Wheels is required by the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services-Food Distribution to provide civil rights information noting we are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, marital status, income derived, political beliefs, reprisal for prior credible activity. Photo Release

Yes I give consent and authorization for the Staff and/or directors of the Haywood County Health & Human Services Agency to use my name, photograph, or video for publicity or the development of print material in support of the Meals on Wheels program. I understand that such material will not be sold or used for monetary gain but may be used to promote the programs the Meals on Wheels program.
